Summer Events June –August

Lions Picnic steak fry at the Stone Quarry, July 26th
Summers are usually a slow time for Lions’ activity, but this year, June thru August, were anything but.
We gave $500 dollars to the homeless shelter program, Room at the Inn. We helped Courtney Ely attend a medical forum, gave a $1000 scholar-ship to Ryan Marceau, helped a local resident get to a down state medical appointment and paid $640 for several needy people to have eye exams and glasses.
Speaking of glasses, we shipped 2000 used pair to a receiving center that will test, grade, repair and reuse them in other countries.
Some of our members attended events honoring the work Lions have done including Lions Day at Teaching Family Homes and at Bay Cliff. We also had a table at the Blue Berry Festival to inform everyone about our many activities. In response we received $180 in donations to keep up the good work.
One Summer tradition is a club picnic we share with the Chocolay Lions. This year it was hosted by Lion Bill Davie on the deck by the stone quarry pond off Division.
Our Summer activities ended August 21 with the annual Rummage Sale. We had a moving van loaded with many quality donated items, from sofas and chairs to exercise equipment and brand name bicycles. The event was a success, raising more than $1100 even in the drizzling rain.
